Frequently Asked Questions

What are the release name rules?
A Helm release name may contain only lowercase letters, digits and hyphens. It must start and end with a letter or digit and is limited to 53 characters.
Why the 53 character limit?
Helm prefixes the release name to Kubernetes resource names (which are capped at 63 characters) along with other suffixes, leaving room for roughly 53 characters.
Are uppercase letters allowed?
No. Release names are always lowercased; if you pass uppercase Helm will reject it.
Does this connect to a cluster?
No. Validation happens locally; nothing is uploaded.
