Pre-submission working tool only. Final document examination is performed by the issuing/negotiating bank under UCP 600 and the exact wording of your LC.

About Letter of Credit Checklist Tool

The Letter of Credit Checklist Tool helps exporters prepare a clean, discrepancy-free presentation. Enter the LC’s key dates and terms, track each required document’s status, and let the tool calculate your presentation deadline and flag common date-based discrepancies automatically.

This is a pre-submission working tool, not a substitute for the issuing or negotiating bank’s formal document examination under UCP 600.

Features

  • Automatic presentation deadline: Calculated from the shipment date plus the LC’s presentation period, capped at the LC expiry.
  • Discrepancy flags: Late shipment, late presentation, and expired-before-shipment checks run automatically as you fill in dates.
  • Editable document checklist: Track each required document’s status — Present, Missing, or Not applicable.
  • Readiness score: A live percentage shows how complete your presentation is.
  • Printable summary: A clean checklist and discrepancy report for your files or your bank.

How to Use

  1. Enter the LC number, issuing bank, amount, expiry date, and presentation period.
  2. Enter the actual (or planned) shipment date — the deadline and any date discrepancies are calculated automatically.
  3. Mark each required document as Present, Missing, or Not applicable, adding any LC-specific documents.
  4. Review the discrepancy panel and readiness score before presenting to the bank.
  5. Print or export the checklist for your records.

Examples

Example: An LC allows 21 days for presentation and expires on 30 June. Goods ship on 20 June, so the calculated deadline is 11 July — but since that is after the LC expiry, the tool flags the true deadline as 30 June and warns that only 10 days remain to present.

Benefits

  • Catch date-based discrepancies before the bank does.
  • Keep a clear record of what has and has not been prepared.
  • Reduce delayed or refused payment under documentary credits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a discrepancy under a letter of credit?
A discrepancy is any inconsistency between the documents presented and the LC terms — for example a late shipment, a presentation made after the deadline, or a document missing a required detail. Banks can refuse to pay against discrepant documents.
How is the presentation deadline calculated?
Under UCP 600, unless the LC states otherwise, documents must be presented within 21 days of the shipment (bill of lading) date, and always no later than the LC expiry date. This tool calculates both and flags whichever is earlier.
What happens if the shipment date is after the LC expiry?
That is normally a fatal discrepancy — the goods were shipped outside the window the LC allows, so the bank is very likely to refuse payment. The tool flags this immediately.
Does this replace a bank’s document examination?
No. Banks examine documents strictly against UCP 600 and the LC’s exact wording. This tool is a pre-submission self-check to catch common date and completeness issues before you present to the bank.
Can I customise the required document list?
Yes. Add, remove, or rename checklist items to match the exact documents your specific letter of credit calls for.
Is my data stored?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
