Frequently Asked Questions

What are mean, median and mode?
They are the three measures of central tendency - three different answers to "what is typical?". The mean is the arithmetic average (sum divided by count). The median is the middle value when sorted. The mode is the most frequent value. Together they describe where a data set sits, and their differences reveal its shape.
Why do they disagree sometimes?
Outliers pull the mean but not the median: salaries with a few extreme values make the mean far higher than the median. Multimodal data has several modes. Choosing the right measure depends on the data - which is exactly why the tool reports all of them at once.
How is the median computed?
Sort the data. With an odd count, the median is the middle value; with an even count, it is the average of the two middle values. The tool shows the sorted list so the median is always verifiable at a glance.
