Flooring estimates fail on the same two numbers every time: how many tiles, and how many boxes. The first is area divided by tile area, rounded up for cuts; the second is the tile count divided by what a box carries. Add a realistic wastage percentage for the cuts themselves, and a price basis — per tile or per box — and the whole order falls out in one line.

Flooring Cost Calculator takes a room in metres or feet, a tile size from 30×30 to 100×100 cm (or custom in cm or inches), and your prices for tiles, boxes and labour. It returns the area, the tiles and boxes to buy, the material and labour cost, the per-square-metre rate and the project total.

1. Pick the input. Room dimensions (length × width) or a measured area.
2. Set the unit. Metres or feet for the room; the area displays in both m² and sq ft.
3. Choose the tile size. A 60 × 60 cm preset, or any custom width and length in cm or inches.
4. Select the pricing basis. Per tile, or per box with the tiles each box carries.
5. Enter the price. The material price in your currency, plus labour per m² if billed separately.
6. Set wastage. 10% is sensible for a rectangular room; more for diagonal or patterned layouts.
7. Read the result. Tiles, boxes, material, labour, total and per-m² rate appear instantly.
8. Export the estimate. Copy or download as text, CSV or JSON for the order.

Example 1 — Living room. A 5 × 4 m room at 60 × 60 cm tiles: 20 m² ÷ 0.36 = 55.6 tiles, rounded to 62 with 10% waste — two extra boxes at 4 tiles per box.

Example 2 — Bathroom. 2 × 2.5 m at 30 × 30 cm tiles: 5 m² ÷ 0.09 = 55.6 tiles, so 62 with 10% waste and about 3.5 boxes of 18.

Example 3 — Diagonal layout. A 3.5 × 4 m room at 45 × 45 cm is 14 m² ÷ 0.2 = 70 tiles; diagonal fitting needs closer to 80 tiles at 14% wastage.

Example 4 — Cost comparison. 22 m² in vitrified at a per-box price works out to a per-m² rate you can compare against quartz or marble before committing to the finish.

Example 5 — Labour line. A 32 m² open floor at 60 tiles with labour at a set per-m² rate splits the quote cleanly into material and fitting, so a change in either is easy to re-price.
