About Punch List Generator & Tracker

The final walkthrough is where projects are won or lost. The Punch List Generator & Tracker turns a scattered list of deficiencies into a managed closeout: each item gets an area, trade, category, priority, status, owner and due date. As items move from Open to In Progress to Done, the tracker shows completion progress, counts by status and category, and filters the list so nothing slips.

It is the single source of truth for final payment — export a clean, printable record for the owner, the GC and your file.

Features

  • Structured items: Area, trade, category, priority, status, owner, due date.
  • Progress: Completion percent from Done items, plus Open/In-Progress/Done counts.
  • Breakdowns: Counts by category and by area.
  • Filters: Slice the list by status and area.
  • Priority first: Sort so high-priority work surfaces.
  • Owner & due: Accountability and deadlines per item.
  • Export: CSV, JSON or plain text closeout record.

How to Use

  1. Add items. Walk the space and log each deficiency with area, trade and category.
  2. Set priority & owner. Flag high-priority items and assign who fixes them by when.
  3. Track. Move each from Open to In Progress to Done as work closes.
  4. Review. Watch completion percent and the status/category counts.
  5. Filter. Narrow by status or area during the walkthrough.
  6. Export. Produce the closeout record.

Examples

Example 1 — New build closeout. 24 items: 4 paint, 3 electrical, 2 plumbing; completion climbs as the GC clears them.

Example 2 — High priority first. A missing GFCI (electrical, high) is flagged and closed before cosmetic paint.

Example 3 — By area. Filter to Bath and see the three open items needing the plumber.

Example 4 — Due dates. Two items past due surface in red for a status meeting.

Example 5 — Final payment. At 100% Done, export the list as the closeout sign-off backup.

Benefits

  • No dropped items: A managed list beats memory and scratch notes.
  • Visible progress: Completion percent keeps the team honest.
  • Dispatch smart: Trade and area grouping routes work efficiently.
  • Accountability: Owner and due date on every item.
  • Closeout record: Exportable for payment and the file.
  • Private: No account, no upload, nothing stored.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a punch list?
A punch list is the record of incomplete or incorrect work identified at final walkthrough. It drives closeout: every item gets fixed, verified and closed before final payment.
How is completion measured?
Percent complete is the share of items marked Done. The tracker also counts Open, In Progress and Done so you see the shape of the work remaining.
Why capture trade and area?
Grouping by trade (electrical, plumbing, paint) and area (kitchen, bath, exterior) lets you dispatch the right person and report progress room by room.
What about priority?
High-priority items (safety, function) should close first. The list can be sorted and filtered so critical work is never buried.
Can I assign owners?
Yes — set who is responsible and a due date per item so accountability and deadlines are explicit.
Is it printable?
Export to CSV, JSON or plain text as a clean closeout record for the owner, GC and file.
What statuses are used?
Open, In Progress and Done. Only Done counts toward completion; the others show remaining work.
Is my data stored?
No. All tracking runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded, saved or logged.
