Examples

Example 1 — Pipe flow. A 3/4 in (0.785 in bore) pipe at 4 fps carries about 6.0 GPM.

Example 2 — Bucket test. A 5 L bucket fills in 12 s: flow = 25 LPM.

Example 3 — Metric pipe. A 20 mm bore at 1.2 m/s moves ~22.6 LPM.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate flow rate from pipe size?
Multiply the pipe cross-section area by the water velocity: Q = A x v. Enter the internal diameter and velocity and the calculator returns the flow in GPM, LPM and other units.
What is the bucket test?
Fill a known container and time it. If a 5 litre bucket fills in 10 seconds the flow is 30 LPM. It directly measures what a pipe is really delivering at the tap.
Why use internal diameter, not nominal?
The bore determines the area that carries water. Nominal sizes differ in internal diameter by material, so accurate flows need the true internal dimension.
Metric or imperial?
Both, in either direction. Diameter in mm or inches, velocity in m/s or fps, results in LPM, GPM, GPH and more.
What is a typical house flow?
A normal residential service delivers roughly 8-15 GPM (30-57 LPM) at full demand. Individual fixtures draw from about 1 GPM up to several.
Is this flow or pressure?
These are different things. This tool measures how much water moves; your available pressure (static) is separate, though it influences what flow a system can sustain.
