Example 1 — Effective. 30 ft straight, four 90 degree elbows and one globe valve on 3/4 in pipe cost about 22 extra equivalent feet.

What is effective pipe length?
The straight length plus the equivalent straight length of every fitting - a 1/2 in 90-degree elbow, for example, behaves like several extra feet of straight pipe for pressure loss.
Why compute maximum run?
Every foot of pipe burns a little of your available pressure through friction. If you know the budget, the size and the flow, the math says how far the run can realistically go.
How do fittings add length?
Each fitting is modeled as an equivalent length of straight pipe that creates the same friction. The calculator multiplies each fitting count by its L/D equivalent for the pipe diameter you chose.
Metric or imperial?
Both. Lengths in feet or metres, diameter in inches or mm, pressure in psi, bar, kPa or m head.
Does this include elevation?
No - elevation is a separate head to pay. Subtract vertical lift from the pressure budget before applying this tool to the horizontal run.
What is a normal loss budget?
Residential systems often budget a few psi for the longest branch pipe. Commercial and irrigation design targets vary widely; use the figure your layout or code needs.
