How is the grounding conductor sized?
For equipment grounding, NEC Table 250.122 keys the minimum size to the overcurrent device rating. For the main earthing conductor, the phase conductor and the earthing system decide the size.
What is the /2 rule in IEC practice?
A common simplification sizes the protective conductor at half the phase conductor cross-section (rounded up to a standard size), with a minimum of 2.5 mm² when mechanically protected.
NEC vs IEC sizing?
NEC table-based rules use AWG/kcmil sized from the breaker or the phase conductor. IEC/EU practice commonly uses the /2 principle in mm². The calculator presents both, based on your choice.
Which leg is the equipment grounding conductor?
