How many bigha in an acre?
It depends on the region. In North India ~1.61 bigha/acre (27,000 ft² each); in West Bengal ~3.025 bigha/acre (14,400 ft² each); in Nepal ~0.6 bigha/acre (72,900 ft²). Pick your region — the converter adjusts.
What is a gaj?
A gaj is a square yard (9 ft²). Common in North India for plot measurement; "gaj" and "square yard" are the same area.
What is a katha?
A katha is a sub-unit of a bigha used in Bihar, Bengal and parts of Nepal. 20 katha = 1 bigha in Bengal (720 ft² each); Bihar katha ≈ 1,361 ft². The factor varies by state.
How many sq ft in a guntha?
One guntha = 1,089 sq ft (Maharashtra/Karnataka). 40 guntha = 1 acre.
What is a marla / kanal?
Used in Punjab and Pakistan. In Pakistan 1 marla = 225 ft² and 1 kanal = 20 marla = 4,500 ft²; in Indian Punjab a marla is ~272 ft².
What about cent?
A cent is 1/100 of an acre = 435.6 ft², common in south India (Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka).
