How to Use

What is a bill of quantities (BOQ)?
A BOQ is a list of every material item on a job with its quantity, unit and rate. Summing the line items gives the material cost; grouping by trade shows where the money sits. It is the backbone of accurate estimating.
Why add wastage?
Materials are cut, broken, overlapped and spoiled: concrete over-pour, tile cuts, steel offcuts, paint overrun. A 5–10% allowance on most lines keeps the order realistic without grossly inflating it.
Should I price per unit or per package?
Price per the unit you measure in — per m² for flooring, per bag for cement, per length for rebar. If you buy in packs, convert the pack price to a per-unit rate so quantities stay clean.
How do I group by trade?
Tag each line with a category (concrete, steel, masonry, timber, finishes, electrical, plumbing, other). The tool rolls up a subtotal per category so you can see concrete vs finishes at a glance.
Does this include labour?
