About Lighting Layout / Spacing Calculator (Lux Level per Room)

The Lighting Layout Calculator applies the lumen method to a room. Target illuminance, fixture output, utilization and maintenance factors give the number of fixtures required, an approximate spacing, and the lux actually achieved.

Features

  • Room dimensions and area
  • Target illuminance in lux
  • Fixture lumen output
  • Utilization and maintenance factors
  • Fixture count, spacing and achieved lux

How to Use

  1. Enter room length, width and target lux.
  2. Enter fixture lumens with the UF and MF percentages.
  3. Read the fixture count, spacing and achieved level.

Examples

Example: a 6 x 4 m room at 300 lux with 3000 lm fixtures (UF 70%, MF 80%) -> 5 fixtures at about 2.19 m spacing, achieving 350.0 lx.

Benefits

  • Achieved lux is shown, so rounding up stays a visible decision
  • The spacing figure gives a starting grid for the layout
