What makes these materials different?
Bore per nominal size, friction, temperature ceiling, pressure rating and jointing method. The calculator lays six materials side by side at the same nominal size and flow so differences are visible, not theoretical.
Which has the biggest bore at 3/4 in?
PVC usually - its walls are relatively thin at small sizes. Copper M is next, PEX-A the smallest. At the same flow that means different velocities, and velocity shapes pressure loss and noise.
Why do velocities differ?
Velocity equals flow divided by bore area. The same flow through the smaller PEX bore moves faster than through the wider PVC bore, and friction climbs steeply as velocity rises.
Can PVC handle hot water?
Standard PVC sags and weakens with heat - its ceiling is about 140 F. CPVC extends to roughly 200 F and is the plastic typically used for hot lines. Copper and PEX-A/B are fully hot-rated.
How are ratings shown?
Rough working pressure and temperature ceilings per material. Real ratings depend on schedule, size, fittings and local codes - the table is a first pass, not a stamp.
Is this cost advice?
