About Product Certification Requirement Finder (CE, FDA, BIS, FCC & more)

The Product Certification Requirement Finder tells you which certification or conformity mark your product is likely to need for a destination market. Selling into a new market often fails not on price but on compliance — missing the CE mark, FDA clearance, BIS registration, FCC certification or another approval can stop your goods at customs or force costly rework.

Select the destination country and product type, and the checker returns the required certifications with the issuing body, scope and a practical note for each. This gives you the market-access picture you need before engaging a testing lab or compliance consultant.

Features

  • Market & product logic: Certification needs are mapped by both destination and product type.
  • Recognised marks: CE, UKCA, FDA, FCC, BIS, CCC, SRRC, SASO, ANATEL, IMDA, TGA, INMETRO and more.
  • Issuing body & scope: See who issues the mark and what it covers.
  • Practical notes: Lead-time and process guidance for each requirement.
  • Report-only export: Print or save a PDF of only the final certification report.
  • Free and private: All processing stays in your browser.

How to Use

  1. Select the destination country where you want to sell.
  2. Choose the product type — electronics, medical devices, food, cosmetics, toys, machinery, etc.
  3. Review the required certifications and their issuing bodies.
  4. Note the scope and lead time for each requirement.
  5. Export the report — the print/PDF output contains only the final certification report.

Examples

Example 1 – Electronics to India: A manufacturer ships smart speakers to India. The checker flags BIS Compulsory Registration and WPC type approval, so the company budgets for BIS CRS registration and a Wi-Fi device approval before launch.

Example 2 – Medical device to the EU: A firm exports a blood-pressure monitor to Germany. The checker returns CE marking under the EU MDR via a Notified Body and, being an electronic medical device, also EMC/RED assessments, prompting the firm to start the conformity assessment early.

Benefits

  • Plan market access: Know the certifications you need before you commit to a market.
  • Budget cost and time: Factor testing and Notified Body lead times into your plan.
  • Reduce rejections: Avoid customs holds and market withdrawals from missing marks.
  • Clean output: Export only the final certification report for your file.
  • 100% free and private: No sign-up, no upload, runs locally.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is product certification or conformity assessment?
Product certification is the process of verifying that a product meets the technical, safety and quality requirements of a target market before it can be lawfully sold there. It results in a mark or certificate such as CE, FCC, BIS or FDA clearance. Different markets recognise different marks, so you must obtain the certification required by the destination country.
What is CE marking?
CE marking indicates that a product sold in the European Economic Area meets relevant EU safety, health and environmental requirements. It is self-declared by the manufacturer for many products but, for higher-risk goods, requires assessment by a Notified Body. It is not a quality mark; it is a declaration of conformity.
What is the difference between FDA clearance and certification?
The US FDA does not issue "certificates" for most products; instead it clears, approves or registers products. For example, medical devices need 510(k) clearance or PMA approval, food facilities register with the FDA, and cosmetics are regulated for labelling. This tool uses "FDA" broadly to flag that US market access requires FDA involvement for regulated product types.
What is BIS certification in India?
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) runs the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) and other schemes. Many electronics, IT goods, and certain other products require BIS registration or the ISI Standard Mark before they can be imported into and sold in India.
Why are different certifications required in different countries?
Each market has its own regulatory regime for health, safety, electromagnetic compatibility, energy efficiency and consumer protection. An EU product may need CE, the same product in the US may need FCC/UL/FDA, and in India BIS, in Brazil ANATEL/INMETRO, in China CCC/SRRC, and so on. You must satisfy the destination market’s own requirements.
How long does certification take?
It varies widely — from days or weeks for a self-declaration like CE for low-risk products, to many months for a device FDA 510(k), BIS CRS registration, or ANATEL homologation involving testing. Building certification lead time into your export plan is essential.
Is this tool a substitute for a conformity assessment?
No. It is an informational guide to likely certification needs by market and product. A definitive determination requires checking the specific product’s scope against the destination regulation and, where needed, engaging a testing body or Notified Body. Always confirm before shipping.
