About Water Bill / Cost Estimator

A water bill is consumption times a rate structure - and the structure is rarely one flat number. Tiered blocks, a sewer charge tied to use, a fixed meter fee and taxes all stack on top of each other.

Water Bill / Cost Estimator applies your local tariff to your consumption so you can budget ahead, compare rates and price water-saving investments.

Features

  • Consumption units: Gallons, CCF or cubic meters.
  • Tiered pricing: Up to three rate blocks.
  • Wastewater: Percent of use or per-volume rate.
  • Fixed & tax: Meter fee plus any tax add-on.
  • Monthly & annual: Totals for both.
  • Export: Text, CSV or JSON report.

How to Use

  1. Enter monthly consumption in the unit your bill uses.
  2. Set the tariff - single rate or tiered blocks.
  3. Add sewer, fixed and tax charges.
  4. Read the monthly and annual totals.
  5. Export the breakdown if needed.

Examples

Example 1. 8,000 gallons with a 1,000/100-block tariff plus 100% sewer and a $15 meter fee lands around $60-80 a month.

Example 2. The same use under flat rates lands on a straight per-gallon price - useful for comparing two utility service areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the bill calculated?
Total consumption is split across your tariff tiers, each block priced at its rate. Water charges, a separate wastewater/sewer charge, the fixed service charge and any taxes are summed into a monthly total.
What are tiered rates?
Many utilities price water in blocks - the first amount of water each month at a low rate, the next block higher. Tiered pricing rewards conservation and penalises heavy use.
How is wastewater charged?
Sewer charges are often tied to water use - a percentage of consumption, or a flat rate per 1,000 gallons or per cubic meter. Some utilities bill sewer on winter averages when outdoor use is low.
Gallons, CCF or cubic meters?
All three are supported. CCF is 100 cubic feet = 748 gallons. A cubic meter is 1,000 liters = 264.17 gallons. Pick the unit your bill uses to avoid unit-conversion mistakes.
What should I enter for fixed charges and taxes?
The monthly fixed service charge from your bill (meter fee, etc.) and the local tax rate as a percentage. Both are added after the volumetric charges are computed.
Is this a substitute for my bill?
No - it is an estimate from your inputs. Actual bills include surcharges, rebates and seasonal adjustments. Use this for budgeting, comparisons and sizing water-saving projects.
